ARCAS: Could The Army Soon Merge An M4 Rifle And A Computer? | 19FortyFive

Must Read

What if your M4 had an integrated augmented reality display system? United States Army soldiers are currently putting this theory to the test. This equipment would provide useful information about what the user is aiming towards as well as act as a communication waypoint. To change the way weapons are pointed, the system includes a video augmented reality component connected to a heads-up display. Elbit Systems, an Israeli company, developed the Assault Rifle Combat Application System, or ARCAS. It is based on first-person shooter video games and is fitted to soldiers’ guns for a better situational awareness system. The M4’s electro-optical sight communicates with its artificial intelligence. This technology is described by Elbit as a “digital, networked warfare machine.”
