Four of Saifullah Yar’s male family members were killed in a nighttime raid conducted by SAS in Afghanistan in February of 2011. A claim has been made on his behalf and is being heard by a British court. Richard Hermer QC, who is representing Yar, stated there has been a series of allegations alleging a pattern of unlawful executions of fighting aged males by the SAS. The Soldiers in Yar’s case say the victims were carrying weapons and possessed grenades and only acted out of self-defense, Yar’s family deny the claim.
Hermer is seeking the release of additional documents that would illuminate the incident among others and the Ministry of Defense’s response. A short investigation was conducted in April of 2011 by internal military detectives but the 11 events in question are still subject of contention.
