The Air Force acknowledged a group of troops for their extraordinary bravery aboard three HH-60G Pave Hawks during an Iranian ballistic missile attack against Al Asad Air Base in Iraq in January 2020 last month.
The medals were one of a number of awards given to thirteen members of the 55th Rescue Squadron, 563rd Rescue Group, 355th Wing for their actions while serving with the 46th Expeditionary Rescue Squadron, 1st Expeditionary Rescue Group, 332d Air Expeditionary Wing deployed to Al Asad at the time of the attack. These awards included three DFCs with valor, nine Air Medals with valor, and a Bronze Star.
