The way AFSOC has handled recent controversy over the female Air Force special tactics candidate has given credence to rumors as far back as 2016 that the AF was not being completely transparent in their integration of women into SOF. The anonymous letter that circulated last week detailed how the female candidate quit the selection process multiple times only to be encouraged to continue and reinstated. Lt. Gen. Jim Slife, the head of AFSOC, responded to the letter in a Facebook Post saying the author lacked factual context and that standards were not lowered. However, after the Facebook post, the Air Force Times reported with documents and information from the candidate herself that show standards were lowered and she was pushed through selection deliberately. The candidate protested against the lowered standards as she believed it invalidated her within the rest of the group.
