Afghanistan: The Soundtrack to a War I Lost | Aviation Week

Lieutenant Colonel Charles Faint, a retired U.S Officer served for 27 years, He served in Afghanistan four times between 2005 and 2010 while assigned to various U.S. Special Operations units. 

One of the ways he dealt with the noise was to pop in earphones and crank up the music on his MP3 player. He also has a lot of Allman Brothers songs on his playlist due to the band’s connection to Macon, Georgia, the number of songs on that tiny orange player was around 74. Alanis Morrissette’s song “Hands Clean” and Jay-song Z’s “99 Problems” are both about how, even though Afghanistan was everything “clean,” sort of wiped our hands off it. He cannot possibly regard Afghanistan as anything other than a war he  lost
