Afghan couple accuse US Marine of abducting their baby | Marine Coprs Times

Must Read

In the midst of the chaotic withdrawal of American soldiers in 2021, the young Afghan couple hurried to the airport in Kabul with their daughter in hand. Two years prior the infant was treated at a US Military Hospital after her parents and five siblings were killed in a Special Forces raid, after months of treatment she was given to her cousin and wife.

The young family was on their way to the United States for further medical treatment, with the aid of U.S. Marine Corps attorney Joshua Mast.

However, when they arrived he provided the child with a Afghan passport with a new last name, Mast. The Marine began the process of adoption, all the while unknown to the Afghan family who was raising the child 7,000 miles away. Joshua Mast used his status and petitioned senior administration officials while using small-town courts to adopt the child without the families knowledge. Just 5 days after arriving, Mast would take the child away with custody papers.

The young child, who is now 3 1/2 years old, is at the center of a complex web of at least four legal proceedings. The Afghan couple has filed a lawsuit against Mast and his wife, Stephanie Mast, in an effort to win her back. The Masts contend that they are her legal parents and that they “acted admirably” to keep her safe. They have requested that the case be dismissed by a federal judge.
