According to a US watchdog, the Pentagon failed to prepare Afghan forces for the exit of foreign soldiers.
Wednesday’s publication of a government watchdog study showed that the quick collapse of Afghanistan’s armed forces in August of last year has precipitated by the sudden departure of US soldiers and contractors from the nation. According to the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (Sigar) study, the collapse of the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) in August 2021 was in reaction to this decision.
The United States launched 7,423 airstrikes against the Taliban in 2019 alone, the highest since 2009, according to a report from the US-led Special Operation Command (Sigar). According to the study, following the departure of US troops, the Afghan government failed to formulate a national security strategy and plan.
