ABC News documentary challenges Pentagon’s claims of rogue Green Berets | ABC News

Must Read

ABC News has been working with the families of the four Green Berets who died during a 2017 ISIS ambush in Niger to present their side of the story. The Pentagon’s official narrative stated the team of Green Berets were acting without permission and didn’t properly assess the risk of taking on an ISIS commander. Operational Detachment Alpha 3216 commander, Capt. Mike Perozeni, is adamant that after learning the other team involved in the operation, ODA-3212, was unavailable for the mission, and that his team would be without backup, he repeatedly requested to not continue as planned. He was working with a small team of USASF and a Nigerian group who had not slept or eaten in 24 hours. Reduced to one ODA, medevac would not be an option for the reconnaissance of ISIS subcommander Doundoun Cheffou. Official reports do not fully state the extent of Perozeni’s pleas to pause the mission only stating that he had a “preference to return to base.” The full documentary premiered on Veteran’s Day and can be found on Hulu.
