A US Army Veteran Brought Stadium Nachos to America and the World | Military.com

Must Read

Capt. Frank Liberto “The King of Nachos.”

Ignacio “Nacho” Anaya is credited with inventing nachos in 1940. He was attempting to prepare a snack for a few military spouses who were traveling from nearby Eagle Pass, Texas, to the Mexican town of Piedras Negras. He prepared some cheese on tortillas and baked it with some jalapeno slices. Capt. Frank Liberto may not have invented the nacho, but he did make it widely available. He was born in 1933 and was raised in San Antonio; the National Association of Concessionaires dubbed him “The King of Nachos.” He enlisted in the Army in 1955 as 2nd Lt. Liberto where he commanded field artillery, after completing his marketing degree at St. Mary’s University in his hometown.
