Aitvaras is one of Lithuania’s most clandestine military organizations. Eugenijus Dauskurtas, a recently retired police officer, talks about the selection process, the service, and the impact it had on his life
From 2004 until 2021, he served in the Lithuanian Armed Forces for 17 years. He began his military career with the National Defense Volunteer Force (KASP), then moved on to the Naval Forces, and lastly to the Special Operations Force (SOF). Dauskurtas, who has recently retired from the military, joined the volunteers to evade conscription. The scheme backfired spectacularly. He later fought in Afghanistan and served in other perilous operations. But it was the special forces selection procedure that stayed with Dauskurtas the longest.
