96-year-old WWII Veteran survives Ian in a trailer | Winknews

Must Read

In his flooded trailer, a 96-year-old World War II veteran survived Hurricane Ian

Ian was not going to be able to overcome Walter. His possessions, however, didn’t fare as well. Walter added, “I’m just grateful to be alive. Walter was introduced to WINK News in February, on his 96th birthday. He received a lot of birthday cards, so it appears that people liked the narrative. Walter endured Hurricane Ian in a trailer in a blue chair as most, if not all, of the people in the neighborhood fled. But he didn’t tell his granddaughter Marcy Haskins that. Marcy stated, “He informed me he was in a shelter. Walter told WINK News that he chose to remain because he believed Ian wouldn’t reach Collier County. Walter stated, “I entered survival mode; the only way I could get through this was by thinking. I was forced to endure at that point without knowing what to think, and the wind was howling. The trailer belonging to his next-door neighbor then started to fill with water.
