One of the concepts that receives the greatest attention in the Air Force is agile combat employment. The way the Air Force is designing the future of combat is by being able to quickly build forward operating areas that are manned by multi-skilled Airmen.
Detachment 1, commonly known as Deployment Cell or “D-Cell,” of the 24th Special Operations Wing has been carrying out this task for more than 60 years. The 54 members of the unit, which has its headquarters at MacDill Air Force Base in Florida, represent 15 different career sectors and work in four agile teams. These groups of multi-talented Airmen receive instruction in 49 cross-functional duties, including as advanced combat casualty care, advanced shooting, and training in survival, evasion, resistance, and escape.
