Army finally picks an optic for Next Generation Squad Weapon | Military Times

Must Read

The US Army revealed last Friday that Vortex Optics subsidiary Sheltered Wings had been selected to produce up to 250,000 Next Generation Squad Weapon – Fire Control systems. The newest optic will essentially be a computer mounted on top of the firearm, estimating distance, ballistics, atmospherics, directional information, electronic overlay, and wireless functionality to connect to equipment like the Army’s new “do-it-all” goggle, which is anticipated to be fielded later this year. Close combat optics, rifle combat optics, and machine gun optics will all be replaced by the NGSW-FC.
