There has been a revitalization of the argument that America no longer requires a Marine Corp, that the other branches can perform Marine duties and absorb parts of the Corps. The argument is rarely had without intense emotions and non-logical thinking. Naval Commander Norman Denny recently wrote a piece in support of the dissolution of the Marines but this author believes he did not account for the dynamic nature of the USMC as a service and fighting force. Since General David H. Berger became the Marines’ commandant the branch has looked at themselves and towards the future and investigated where those two visions might align.
