In pursuit of maintaining the most comprehensive coverage of the world’s oceans in human history, the U.S. Navy has stretched its equipment, vessels, and sailors as far they will allow. This has resulted in global security and a rusted fleet.

The Navy spends billions every year fighting corrosion but the outward appearance of many destroyers and dock landing ships proves it is a losing battle in many cases when their schedules are so packed.

Some have argued that the Navy’s constant operations maintaining a forward presence comes at the cost of actual readiness.
