5M more Americans acquired guns during COVID-19 pandemic | United Press International

There is increased first time gun ownership across America since the emergence of Covid-19. 2.4M Americans bought their first guns in 2019 compared to 5.1M between January of 2020 and May of this year. There were signs of ‘panic buying’ firearms early in the lockdowns and trends have since continued. Many of the buyers were already firearm owners but the rise in first time ownership followed the overall spike.
