Pearl Harbor Survivors: M1903 Rifles Salvaged From U.S.S. California | The American Rifleman

Of the four battleships sunk at Pearl Harbor, the U.S.S. California was the least damaged overall and was prioritized for salvage. Any usable materials including radar, ammunition and the 14” naval guns were removed from the wreckage as quickly as possible. The transfer included 352 M1903 rifles which would be sent to the number of batteries formed around Hawaii to prevent further attacks. Three of these salvaged rifles have been identified.
