SOUTHCOM and SOCSOUTH team up for Norwegian-style ruck march in South Florida | SOUTHCOM

Must Read

A group of military members from SOCSOUTH and SOUTHCOM and civilians participated in a famed Norwegian style Foot March at Homestead Air Reserve Base in Florida.

The march involves carrying a 25-pound ruck sack over 30 kilometers in under four hours. It was first conducted by the Norwegian military in 1915 with the intention of being able to move large groups of troops with speed who are ready to fight upon arrival.

The march in Florida began around after midnight, of the 100 participants, only 56 finished, 26 in a time that would have earned them their Norwegian Armed Forces Marching Badge.

The event collected over 2,500 pounds of non-perishables to aid South Florida’s service members, veterans, and their families.
