Expand Five Eyes to Nine? That’s Four Too Many | Defense One

Following the Thanksgiving holiday, the Senate is likely to take up the must-pass defense authorization bill. When they do, they should drop the poor concept of broadening the historical “Five Eyes” intelligence relationship between the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand to a “Nine Eyes” collaboration that includes India, Germany, Japan, and Korea.

Rep. Ruben Gallego, D-Arizona, is the chairman of the Armed Services Subcommittee for Special Operations and Intelligence. Gallego stated earlier this month that integrating these countries would allow the US to better combat China while also allowing a larger set of countries to join the effort.
