Working out in cold weather may burn more calories as your body expends energy to keep warm, research suggests | Business Insider

According to a study, if you’ve ever frozen your way through a chilly morning jog or an icy post-feast walk around the holidays, you may have spent a few more calories than you would on a hot day.

However, this does not imply that a cold-weather workout is an efficient fat-loss method. According to Dr. Alexander Koch, professor of exercise science at Lenoir-Rhyne University, the cold slows fat oxidation, causing you to lose less fat than you would in hotter activities.

He told Insider that the cold could also activate hormones that increase appetite, which could lead to regaining those calories. As a result, while you can absolutely enjoy cold-weather jogging and other winter sports as part of your fitness program, doing so will not necessarily help you burn fat or lose weight.
