Investing to produce more skilled workers must be part of rebuilding America | The Hill

A “hard infrastructure” legislation to reconstruct our collapsing routes, overpasses, watersheds, electric grid, and public transportation systems is currently wrapping its way through Congress, as is a “human infrastructure” bill that involves, among other factors, funds to broaden childcare, elder care, paid family leaves, and resolve the costs of climate change. The physical infrastructure law will produce millions of well-paying jobs, while the human infrastructure measure will assist workers in filling those jobs. The unanimous support for the hard infrastructure bill is enough for it to become law. The Build Back Better Act, which deals with human infrastructure, is still in the works. Whatever the eventual size and scope of the Build Back Better Act, it must include substantial investment to increase our country’s skilled workforce.
