The US will resume the mission in Somalia against the extremist group Al-Shabaab who reside in the country’s more remote central and southern regions. Last week a delegation from U.S. Africa Command met with the president of the Somali Jubaland state to discuss the importance of cooperation in the fight against terrorism. Former President Trump withdrew some U.S. forces from Somalia last January but they were repositioned nearby in Kenya and Djibouti. The troops in Somalia have been training their country’s special operations forces known as the Danab who have been successful in liberating a number of towns Al-Shabaab controlled.
