Jonathan Toebbe, a Maryland based nuclear engineer, and his wife were the recent target of an FBI sting operation in which they acted as members of a foreign government interested in purchasing state secrets. The Justice Department claims that Toebbe used his national security clearance to access restricted data about naval nuclear technology and sent the information to an actual unnamed foreign power. The FBI then began conducting their operation inserting themselves into Toebbe’s correspondence posing as a foreign agent. Court documents claim Toebee agreed to sell state secrets for $10,000 in cryptocurrency.
