Green Beret Captain Zac Lois spent a tour in northern Afghanistan embedded with the Pashtun people in their rugged homeland. He and his team established a base of operations in the mountainous region with the help of Afghan special operations, an interpreter and Pashtun tribespeople. A close bond between the parties formed and Capt. Lois would eventually become an official member of the Pashtun tribe. He found Pashtun culture exceptionally welcoming and respectful, he learned a common Pashtun axiom that encapsulates their hospitality. The first time two people have a cup of tea together, they’re strangers, the 2nd time, they’re friends, but by the 3rd teatime, they’re family.
