We must think about how we are to repay the Afghans who risked everything over the past 20 years to promote American efforts in their country. This piece recommends passing a piece of legislation similar to the American GI Bill which helped integrate Second World War vets back into the American economy. The cost of such a program would be more than negligible but when compared to the cost of nation building efforts over the past two decades, the figure may seem less daunting. Creating an Afghan GI Bill would help make good on our promise to be there for our allies and maximize their potential contributions to their new home, our country.
