Air Force Special Operations Commander Expects New, Lighter Plane to Fight Terrorists Next Year | Military.com

The Air Force is looking to equip special operators with a new light aircraft in the near future. Air Force Special Operations Command wants to field about 75 multipurpose, fixed-wing aircraft that could fly in remote locations without much logistical support. Intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance are all possible mission types for the new plane. The Air Force is calling its search for a new plane: The Armed Overwatch Program and there is chance of the new plane seeing action by FY 2022.
