Duke Field members reflect on response to 9-11 | 919th Special Operations Wing

Citizen Air Commandos of the 919th Special Operations Wing are trained to be ready execute special operations missions at any time and in any place. Chief Master Sgt. Keith Poole, of the 859th Special Operations Squadron recalled how many phone calls he received after 9/11 from reservists wanting to join the fight. By the end od 2002 over 600 members of the 919th had been activated with almost half of them assigned to the Wing. Chief Master Sgt. Mark Harrell, 919th Special Operations Aircraft Maintenance Squadron superintendent, remembered on 9/11 that his maintenance team was in the middle of dissembling a MC-130E Combat Talon aircraft. Normally it would take over 2 weeks to put back together, but under pressure the team had the plane operational the following day.
