The Taliban announced who they intend to fill leadership positions within their government last week. Sirajuddin Haqqani, a US-designated terrorist, will become Afghanistan’s new interior minister. He will be tasked with dealing with ISIS-K and other insurgent groups as the Taliban looks to solidify their hold on the territory. He has experience in the field including the deployment of suicide bombers and the kidnapping of journalists. His role in a 2008 Kabul hotel bombing earned him a $5 million FBI bounty posting. As the Taliban become acquainted with governance the threat of additional attacks within the country remain high.
