For the past 20 years, out of fear of souring the ‘special relationship’ they have, British military officials usually keep their criticisms of American foreign policy private. Since the invasion of Afghanistan began, England has been a trustworthy ally and regular contributor to the various regional efforts. However, after President Biden announced his withdrawal decision, General Sir Nick Carter, the highest-ranking member of Britain’s Armed Forces, expressed his discontent during an interview with BBC. A lack of communication to Britain about the withdrawal plan and earlier instances was chief among complaints. Revealed by the entire process is the inability of European forces to conduct their own military operations independent of America.
