A stretch of a Michigan state highway will be closed down for U.S. Air Force road landing exercises on August 5th. Four A-10C Warthogs and two C-146A Wolfhounds will ground themselves on Michigan’s M-32 near Alpena as part of the Air Force’s wider Exercise Northern Strike. This is believed to be the first time an American Air Force craft has ever landed on an American road. The exercise certainly keeps in line with the Air Force’s Agile Combat Employment directive which aims to ensure that airpower can be maintained without access to regular airbases.
