The Empire State Trail, which was completed in December 2020, is a 750-mile bicycle route that runs from the southern point of Manhattan north to the Canadian border and, through a perpendicular branch, through Buffalo and Albany, making it the United States’ longest multi-use state trail. It borders the east side of Adirondack Park and becomes a slim shoulder of a hilly road, after going through the Hudson Valley and the Catskills, frequently in the form of authorized, car-free paths. The route is reminiscent of a bygone era. Biking slows time and allows you to take in the scenery in a way that vehicles and planes do not.
