Afghan Special Forces were reportedly flown to Turkey last Wednesday as part of a NATO sponsored training event. In June, thirty NATO members committed to continue supporting Afghan National Defense and Security Forces and to training them outside Afghanistan. NATO had ceased its training program inside Afghanistan, but this effort appears to be a sign of more to come. The previous location for training Afghan special forces was said to be Qatar which is where the US agreed with the Taliban to withdraw troops from Afghanistan by September. This lack of commitment from the US dissuades other nations from committing resources to train Afghan Forces out of the country. NATO members including the US are scheduled to give up to $4 billion to Afghanistan to fund their security forces until 2024.
