A California-based unit is geared for a naval deployment and full military activities eighteen months after acquiring the first-ever fifth-generation jet fighter, the F-35C Lightning II. Among Marine aviators and all aviation forces in the military, the regiment was the first to attain that distinction. According to a press statement, Marines of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron, VMFA 314, Marine Aircraft Group 11, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, at Miramar, California, attained that critical milestone in early July. Following the Marine Corps Force Design 2030 and, particularly, the service’s 2019 aviation strategy, this group is on the verge of huge changes affecting the whole Marine Corps aviation.
