Most Americans possess a false sense that the contiguous United States could never be invaded, but in a way, online disinformation campaigns led by places like China, North Korea, Russia, and Iran already have. According to a recent RAND Corporation report commissioned by the Air Force Special Operations Command, Air Force information operations may be best positioned to combat these attacks. Disinformation, as opposed to misinformation, intentionally tries to mislead its target population. The RAND report recommends a more comprehensive American response to these types of attacks which divide and disorient the population. The rift the last two Presidential Elections has created is evidence of how susceptible our country is to foreign influence.
