Must Read

The submarines of the Virginia Class are already highly equipped. Up to 37 torpedo-sized armaments, such as Tomahawk cruise missiles, can be carried by each boat. Twelve of these slots are located in the Virginia Payload Tubes, which are two vertical launch systems (VLS). The new Block V (5) submarines will have 28 more ports in their VLS. This is a 76 percent increase in torpedo-sized weaponry. The US Navy intends to construct 72 to 78 new assault submarines. The Virginia Block V boats will make up ten of them, eight of them being up-armed, as indicated above. According to a new information report from the Congressional Research Service, this modification will eventually be installed on 31 Virginia Class submarines.
