Must Read

Major General John W. Brennan, Commanding General, 1st Special Forces Command (Airborne), honored Staff Sgt. Tyrrel, a Special Forces Medical Sergeant of Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), the Soldier’s Medal in an event held at the Deeks Language Lab on July 14, 2021, for saving the life of a critically injured drowning woman. Tyrrel and his companion were on the river during the day when they heard a ruckus in the water and saw a woman drowning. Tyrrel and his companion dove into the river, hauled her to safety and evaluated her condition swiftly. Emergency medical personnel were unable to access them or provide assistance due to the isolated location of the river where they discovered the woman. Tyrrel waited with the woman and cared for her until she was able to board a life raft. He then assisted her in getting past the waves to a safe place.
