According to a top Air Force officer, the Pentagon’s termination of its cloud computing deal with Microsoft enables the military to select the “best in class” for a new architecture. According to Air Force Lt. Gen. S. Clinton Hinote, deputy chief of staff for strategy, integration, and requirements, the new multi-cloud, a multi-vendor project that will substitute the Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure program, will permit for more competition and help businesses demonstrate their abilities. The Pentagon said on July 6 that it would terminate Microsoft’s $10 billion JEDI plan and instead explore a new Joint Warfighter Cloud Capability, or JWCC.
