Following US President Joe Biden’s meeting with other heads of state on June 14 in Brussels, it was revealed that NATO members are preparing to officially resist the alliance’s deployment of ground-based nuclear missiles in Europe. According to one US Senate aide and one European source who declined to be identified, the carefully kept record, the viewpoint, which reflects earlier views from Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg, is set out in a written statement to be released following the NATO summit. The likely move is seen as a method to de-escalate tensions with Moscow and kick-start an arms control debate ahead of the June 16 U.S.-Russia meeting in Geneva.
