The Navy never had to go far for new recruits for its elite SEAL team. For years, eager candidates flocked to Naval Special Warfare teams to try out. Now, leaders of the Naval Special Warfare Command are working to launch initiatives to enlist from more diverse parts of the country. The endeavor comes at a time when the military — and the country as a whole — is dealing with and debating racism, radicalism, and hate crimes. Even as they enhance other education and training initiatives, leaders view increasing diversity as a tool to counteract radicalism in the ranks.
