The new SDO-SuRS vessel has been built with a modular system to assist the Italian Navy’s diving and special forces (SF) units assigned to the COMSUBIN (Comando Subacquei ed Incursori) Command. It will supersede the elderly Anteo vessel, which has served for almost 40 years. According to a news release from the T. Mariotti shipyard, the contract award is due in the summer, which is part of the Genova Industrie Navali (GIN) shipbuilding group. According to the shipbuilder, the first steel cut will take place by the end of 2022, while the full concept, building, fitting-out, and deployment schedule will take four years, with a delivery date of 2025.
