Led by the 4th Marine Regiment of the 3d Marine Division and assisted by units from the III Marine Expeditionary Force and the Joint Force, the Jungle Warfare Exercise (JWX) took place in Okinawa from May 24-28. The Northern Training Area (NTA) was chosen as the site for a spontaneous force-on-force drill because its geographical attributes resemble much of the environment found on the archipelago of the Indo-Pacific region. The operation pitched two reinforced infantry companies against each other in a scattered forest and coastal environment, replicating a real conflict across many realms against a thinking, adaptive peer-level foe.
