Officials confirmed Friday that the court-martial for a Marine Raider convicted of manslaughter and other charges in the 2017 strangling murder of a Green Beret in Mali would commence on Monday at Naval Station Norfolk Virginia. Gunnery Sgt. Mario Madera-Rodriguez is scheduled to make a not guilty plea to the allegations he faces in the killing of Army Staff Sgt. Logan Melgar while on a counterterrorism operation in the West African country. The court-martial for Madera-Rodriguez is set to last three weeks, beginning with court proceedings on Monday and Tuesday after the Marine chose an eight-person panel. If proven guilty of the criminal murder accusation, the Marine may face life imprisonment.
