Given how competitive the enemies are, the US Navy has to grow not just in number but also on the equipment they have. This entails nailing down the number of ships needed to compete with Russia and China. Specifically, the US Navy needs to build 355 ships, but how can they do so? According to the AUSN report, the Navy needs to reimagine its economics, reset Navy policies to encourage long-term service, and rebuild national interest and skill sets for Navy service.
