Navy carrier, Air Force B-52s, Army Rangers to help protect Afghanistan pullout, officials say | Navy Times

As the troops are set to leave Afghanistan starting May 1, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has decided to keep an aircraft carrier in the Middle East to help protect American and coalition troops. Specifically, the extension of the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower’s deployment in the Middle East for a “period of time” was approved. In addition, two US Air Force B-52 bombers were deployed in the country, too, to secure the troops as they pull out.
