Last month Canadian special forces came together with Iraqi and US SF in the battle against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). The joint forces were able to eliminate dozens of fighters loyal to ISIL. According to Maj.-Gen. Peter Dawe, the Canadian special forces helped plan the two-week operation codenamed Ready Lion, which aimed to root ISIL forces from mountain hideouts. Aside from that, the Canadian SF troops also provided surveillance and assistance with resupplying local forces as the assault in the Makhmur Mountains was ongoing.
