As the conflict between China and the Philippines over the South China Sea continues to grow, the U.S. carrier strike group, led by the USS Theodore Roosevelt, returned to the area for the second time in less than two months. This is after 220 Chinese paramilitary ships, manned by maritime militias, have been spotted around a disputed reef in the South China Sea. The carrier strike group is set to conduct various exercises while in the area, including a “coordinated tactical training.”
