In its effort to make the military more modern, the U.S. Army has awarded Microsoft a $22 billion contract to produce new augmented reality vision systems called Integrated Visual Augmentation System (IVAS). IVAS comes with advanced sensor fusion capabilities and can also project a wide range of data piped in from various sources that can improve situational awareness and other things to help the troops on the battlefield. In the contract is “a five-year Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ)-like ordering period” and “five one-year options for CLS.”
