The Fanys: The nurses who became commandos during World War II | We Are the Mighty

Odette Sansom, Violette Szabó, and Noor Inayat Khan are members of England’s First Aid Nursing Yeomanry or FANYs. These nurses are doing typical nursing jobs until they were recruited to become members of the Special Operations Executive (SOE). Of all nurses recruited, the three have been sent to the field to conduct commando operations, carrying false papers with fake names, home addresses, and occupations to protect themselves. The three have received the George Cross, Britain’s highest civilian honor, for their heroism.
