In the latest run-in with China over disputed sea territory, the U.S. State Department has shown full support to the Philippines. Earlier this month, around 220 Chinese fishing vessels were seen near Julian Felipe Reef in the Spratly Islands, the island that China and the Philippines have been fighting over ownership for years. The U.S. does not recognize China’s claims and even conducts freedom-of-navigation patrols in the disputed waters from time to time.
