Fewest number of special ops forces deployed since 2001 as Pentagon reviews decisions to draw down troops | Stars & Stripes

With around 5,000 special operations forces deployed in about 62 countries, the U.S. has reached its lowest number of deployed special operations forces since 2001, following the 9/11 terrorist attack. The decrease is equivalent to 15% of the troops that were deployed last year. The decreasing deployment of special operations forces is due to a lot of reasons, including an attempt to reduce the demand for special operators following a culture review last year.
